Methane is the second most important greenhouse gas after CO₂, with a global warming potential 28 times higher over 100 years. Although it remains in the atmosphere for around 12 years, reducing methane offers a powerful opportunity for near-term climate action aligned with the Paris Agreement goals. At COP26 in 2021, over 150 countries committed to the Global Methane Pledge, aiming to cut methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030, with agriculture and livestock responsible for nearly 40% of emissions.
Objectives
Highlight scalable technologies and practices for methane reduction in agriculture including renewable energy integration through biogas systems.
Share implementation experiences and challenges related to scaling biogas solutions including technology, financing, social acceptance and regulation.
Explore policy instruments and financing mechanisms, data systems to support scale-up.
