Decarbonizing intensive industries faces significant challenges including the high initial costs of new technologies, the technological difficulty of replacing high-temperature processes and fossil fuels, need of regulations, and global competition.
We present the decarbonizing the cement sector that involves a combination of energy efficiency, switching to low-carbon fuels like hydrogen or biomass, using alternative cementitious materials to replace clinker, and implementing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). The challenges and how the sector in Spain is seen their latest road map.
Objectives
Use the example of the cement sector to illustrate how their road map for decarbonization has progressed and the challenges and opportunities.
Combine this with some initial toughs on inclusion of sustainable finance.
Assess the process under IPCC to develop CDR methodologies to support emissions and removals estimations.
