In this participatory session, participants will first explore the crucial differences between disinformation—false information spread deliberately—and misinformation, which is incorrect information shared without harmful intent. The discussion will highlight how both forms of misleading information can significantly hinder efforts in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, making it harder for communities and decision-makers to respond effectively to environmental challenges.

The narrative then shifts to the importance of clear and accurate communication, especially during Rapid Environmental Impact Assessments, where timely and reliable information is essential. To deepen understanding, the group will engage in a workshop centered on a realistic disaster risk scenario, with expert input tailored to the location of the upcoming COP event.

Objectives

Clarify the Differences Between Disinformation and Misinformation: Help participants understand how intentional and unintentional false information can impact climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Develop Effective Communication Strategies: Equip participants with tools and approaches for clear, accurate, and timely communication, especially during rapid environmental assessments and crisis situations.

Establish Collaborative Best Practices: Facilitate group agreements and outline best practices among stakeholders to prevent the spread of misinformation and strengthen disaster risk management in the context of climate change.
