CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, promotes the “Strategic Ecosystems” initiative to address the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, within the framework of its goal of becoming a “green” bank. The project selected 14 key ecosystems—such as the Amazon, the Caribbean Sea, and the La Plata Basin—for their global importance and vital role for local communities. With the support of NTT DATA, the main threats were identified, a financing gap for biodiversity conservation of more than USD 400 billion was measured, and a detailed action plan was designed to protect and restore these areas, with three levels of investment between 1,200 and 12,000 million dollars. 180 solutions were analyzed, of which 80 were prioritized (24 nature-based), and 232 possible sources of funding were defined. In addition, an interactive platform was created that guides decisions and investments, promoting innovative management and the conservation of regional biodiversity.
Objectives
Disseminate knowledge management tools, analysis of solutions, for cost-efficient decision-making for the generation and financing of projects with positive impacts on biodiversity and resilience in LAC ecosystems.
