This side event will tackle the democratic deficit in climate decision-making. Young people are not merely stakeholders but rightsholders in the climate crisis, yet our participation remains largely symbolic. This session will focus on creating concrete, permanent mechanisms to embed youth voices at all levels of governance and on highlighting the role of both formal and non-formal education as a foundational pillar for creating a critical, engaged citizenry capable of driving the eco-social transformation.

Objectives

Address the Democratic Deficit in Climate Decision-Making The event aims to highlight and tackle the lack of genuine youth participation in climate governance.

Promote Youth as Rightsholders, not Just Stakeholders It seeks to shift the perception of young people from symbolic participants to essential rightsholders in climate action.

Develop Concrete, Permanent Mechanisms for Youth Inclusion The session will focus on creating lasting structures that embed youth voices at all levels of governance.

Emphasize the Role of Education in Eco-Social Transformation Both formal and non-formal education are presented as foundational for building a critical, engaged citizenry capable of driving meaningful change.
