10 Emerging Technology Solutions for Planetary Health

This report from the World Economic Forum highlights the critical role of emerging technologies in addressing the accelerating climate crisis. In 2024, global temperatures remained 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, with projections suggesting a rise of up to 3°C by 2100 if current policies persist. Against this backdrop, the report presents a special edition of the Top 10 Emerging Technologies, focusing on innovations that can mitigate emissions, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainable resource use.

The selected technologies include breakthroughs such as green concrete, green ammonia, methane capture, bi-directional charging, modular geothermal systems, precision fermentation, and microbiome engineering, among others. Together, they offer solutions for decarbonization, energy efficiency, food security, and ecosystem restoration.

Emphasizing that technology is not a standalone solution but a vital enabler, the report calls for policy support, financial investment, and global collaboration to scale these innovations equitably. Ultimately, it argues that achieving a sustainable future within the 1.5°C limit will require unprecedented technological innovation and rapid adoption worldwide.
