The world of the polycrisis we live in is characterised by the simultaneous existence of concurring crises: the long-standing climate crisis we are faced with is joined by the emergence of new security challenges following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, instability in the Middle East and additional geopolitical hotspots elsewhere.
Objectives
Analyse the interlinkages between climate action and energy security in the current context of overlapping global crises, including geopolitical conflicts and humanitarian emergencies.
Examine how recent security challenges affect global energy transitions and influence policy decisions regarding fossil fuel dependence and renewable deployment.
Identify strategies to reconcile energy resilience with climate ambition, highlighting how accelerated investment in clean, domestic energy sources can strengthen both security and sustainability.
Promote a new paradigm of energy security where climate action, geopolitical stability, and sovereignty are mutually reinforcing objectives within a resilient and cooperative global framework.
